Colts fight hard for a draw but could of got all three points!

We went into this game knowing we needed a good solid team performance as Wayton Hounds are among the league leaders

Keeping to the same formation as last week we started the game really well and looked comfortable with the ball. Both sides were not really creating many chances and were just cancelling each other out.

The colts defence dealt really well with the long ball being played by Waytown hounds and as a side we knew we were in this game and there were points to be had.

Going up the slope first is always hard but we were doing well to keep Waytown to shots from distance. We were finally undone by a shot from out wide that beat our stand in goal keeper Joe Draper. Half time approached and we were very unlucky to be one down.

Half Time Ilminster Colts 1 – 0 Waytown Hounds

After a good half time chat the colts knew the game was there for us to win especially as we were playing down the slope this half.

We started the second half brightly with some excellent link up play between the central and wide midfielders. We started to create a few chances but again we failed to convert them into goals. Ten minutes had gone in the second half and the gaffer did his first change swapping the hard working Tommy Wallis for a fresh Adam Whaites.

We were still creating lots of chances but failing to get the equaliser. The gaffer brought about another change bringing on Kevin crouch for Chris Rawle. Again we carried on creating chance and Waytown hounds had nothing in reply but we still could not make the chances pay.

It was now one way traffic as we pushed and pushed for the equaliser and it finally came from a bullet strike 25 yards out by Chris May.

Confidence in the colts had now grown even more and we forced the Waytown Hounds keeper to make some excellent saves, one in particular from a corner where a late arriving Liam Doble powered a header towards goal forcing the Waytown keeper to make an excellent save.

The team continued to push on right until the final whistle but we failed to get the extra goal and had to settle for the draw. All in all it was another excellent performance from the team and this run now takes us to three games unbeaten.

Thanks goes to Joe Draper for standing as goalkeeper while our ageing regular keeper Steve Garland took a weeks rest.
