First half we saw some great progress and saw the introduction of this week's training brought into the match. The ladies started very strong, holding off the opponents; from the first minute they pressured Lydeard and forced them to play the ball backwards. We had a few chances in the final third but just unfortunate not to finish them. And we saw some greats spells of play from all the team.
First half ended 0-0.
Second half the ladies continued to pile on the pressure whilst out of possession, but unfortunately due to multiple injuries, the heat and fitness, the team's heads went down after an unfortunate penalty given for a debatable handball. Not too long after, the Lydeard side started to break us down and managed to score another goal. The ladies didn’t give up and continued to fight back, with again multiple attempts on goal but just unable to finish.
Lydeard then scored from a free kick giving them a strong lead with only 7 minutes left of the match.
Overall the ladies performance was great, especially in the heat again. They played their hearts out and kept going until the final whistle.
But there’s still lots of work to be done. With losing out on a pre-season we knew it would be a tough start, but the management are happy with the progress they are seeing.
Full time: Bishops Lydeard 3-0 Ilminster Town
We will go again next week against Nailsea United and hope to improve further throughout each match.
