Ilminster Town Reserves v Sydenham Rangers
1-1
With a late start this team knew the opening of the league was going to be tough, but their dedication and persistence is now shining through. A well improved performance for the side saw a very good game of football in strong winds. With no keeper due to injury, 16 year old striker Summer Stoodley stepped in to the position.
The team had multiple counter attacks and chances but not finding the goal in the first half. The ladies held strong and the defence was untouchable leaving the first half 0-0.
With plenty of subs this week and a few injuries, the team managed to organise well and rest as and when needed.
The start of the second half did see centre back Daisy Charles go down with a dislocation to the knee - we send our thoughts and hope for a speedy recovery.
Even with this, the ladies still maintained the pressure and a great ball over the top saw striker Shannon Crouch one on one with the keeper; slotting in the first goal of the match.
Sydenham gave as much pressure back, seeing them equalise within ten minutes.
With 22 minutes remaining and now 1-1 both teams fought every ounce, with another injury to the town seeing Charlie Orr go down - again we send our thoughts and hope for a speedy recovery.
The last 15 minutes saw multiple shots for both sides and the momentum didn’t halt but unfortunately we just couldn’t get that winning goal, leaving the full time whistle at 1-1.
A very good game of football from both sides and a first point for the town, with lots of positives moving into next week's home match against Bishops Lydeard.
