Ilminster Ladies got off to a flying start for the 2013/2014 season !.

Ilminster town ladies traveled to Bishops Lydeard Sunday for their first game of the season. In some rather dry and hot conditions and with only a bare 10 players it took Ilminster a little time to settle down especially spending the first half going up hill against the wind.

They then got their first goal by Aimee Rowe who slotted the ball home comfortably after some well worked football, Ilminster then progressed on looking more comfortable as the game went on, creating more chances but not quite converting after some good defending from Lydeard. Nearing half time Ilminster added a couple more through Alice Charlton one of which a magnificent strike from the right wing position, cross or no cross a stunning goal.

Half time approached and after a good team chat from Manager Craig Stuckey Ilminster went out looking to finish the job in the second half, Ilminster came out looking comfortable with their 3-0 lead and now going downhill continued to push on with another Alice Charlton goal taking the score up to a brilliant 4-0 score line and finishing her first hat trick of the season. Lydeard however were not done and continued to press themselves and eventually found themselves in a goal scoring opportunity but with some pressure from center back Emma Jennings tracking back Lydeard took a fast shot only for Keeper Abbi Bond to dive to the right and save.

Lydeard then found themselves with another chance from a free kick just outside the 18 yard box however again the strike could only go as far as Bonds hands. Ilminster saw this as a wake up call and pushed on themselves working the ball nicely allowing Sarah Roxburgh to go past the defense finding herself in a somewhat hard position on the right of the 18 yard box however this was no trouble as Sarah Chipped the keeper with some style. Moments later Ilminster again decided to give another push to keep the clean sheet and the pressure on Lydeard and the ball soon found Megan Purchase who took one touch from some distance out and striked the ball straight past the keeper making the score a 6-0 lead and helping the 3 points come Ilminsters way.

With the score line looking good and Ilminster looking to finish the game with their first win of the season Captain Alice Charlton went in for a challenge and took a knock forcing her to leave the field leaving Ilminster with 9 players, however with only little time left Ilminster finished the game, with 3 points, 6 Goals and a clean sheet , the perfect start for a good season ahead.

Girl of the game went to both Aimee Rowe and Megan Purchase for an all around great display
