Portishead Ladies 0 - 5 Ilminster Ladies

Ilminster traveled away to Portishead Sunday in wet and windy conditions this did not put town off though were in good spirits ahead of the game.

Ilminster called up Kelly Andrews from the reserves to play in an unfamiliar position at right back.

The first half saw Ilminster get off to a good start playing some attractive football, moving the ball well and creating opportunity's. All the possession football paid off for Ilminster when they opened the scoring through Jenny Frost who very calmly netted giving Ilminster the breakthrough. Ilminster still continued to play outstanding football and each player working very hard, a second goal then came when Sarah Roxburgh found herself in the box and when she faked the first initial shot forcing the defender the wrong way and creating space for herself she then carried on with a brilliant strike past the keeper making it 2-0.

Ilminster were made to wait for their next goals when the Portishead keeper seemed equal to any shots coming her way, forcing Ilminster to become frustrated. However after sheer persistence Ilminster found their third goal through Alice Charlton when she took it upon herself to add to the scoreline with a calm and collective finish into the bottom corner of the goal finally beating the keeper for a third time and giving Charlton her first of the game.

Before half time Ilminster added a forth goal through Frost again who was in the mix of the action to put a second goal to her tally and 8 for the season so far. This placed Ilminster in a good position and set them up a comfortable second half.

The second half saw the ladies take their foot off the gas and spurn good chances to increase their lead and push home their dominance. The only goal of the second half came from an excellent move down the right wing with Lesley Spearing crossing for Charlton to head home her second.

Although Ilminster could have done better in front of goal it was good to come away with another clean sheet after an impressive defensive display from girls of the game Emma Jennings, Anna Bussell and Kelly Andrews.
