Blues go 6 clear at top !

On a cold day and a very wet pitch, Ilminster played uphill in the 1st half defending well and dealing comfortably with anything Mendip threw at them. Progressing forward Ilminster created some good chances and eventually broke the deadlock when they were awarded a penalty which was calmly slotted home by Aimee Rowe to put them 1-0 up at half time.

Mendip did however create a chance coming down the hill when a long ball through found their striker one on one with Keeper Abbi Bond who safely saved for a corner.

Ilminster continued to create chances throughout the game one of which a fantastic strike from Amber Clarke only for it to hit the crossbar and come back out. Ilminster continued to dominate resulting in a half time score of 1-0.

The 2nd half saw the ladies continue to push forward coming down the hill this time and after more hard work and chances it finally paid off when Ilminster got their 2nd goal of the game after a brilliant square ball for Dee Cracknell to side foot in to the very end corner leaving the keeper no chance.

Ilminster then increased their lead again this time adding a 3rd through Amber Clarke who positioned herself perfectly from the incoming cross to head home and take Ilminsters lead to 3-0. Mendip again though continued to work hard and look for a goal and again the striker found herself through only for Bond to stick a leg out and put wide for a corner which was then dealt with calmly by the ladies.

Ilminster continued to play their game and rarely looked troubled and in the last few minutes added a 4th when Poppy Hookings appeared to release a cross on the wing only for it to fly over the defense and goalkeeper into the top right corner of the goal. The final whistle blew with Ilminster winning 4-0 leaving them now 6 points clear at the top through the Christmas break.

Man of the Match went to Amber Clarke who on her return put a brilliant shift in up front.

Ilminster would like to wish Captain and top scorer Alice Charlton good luck on her travels in the new year and look forward to her return.
