Erin Bloomfield makes her senior football debut, scoring a hat trick and helping Ilminster to all three ponits

Ilminster Town Ladies 4-2 Keynsham Town Development

This Sunday saw Ilminster host Keynsham Town Development, who they played in the reverse fixture just 2 weeks prior to this game.

The game marked a special occasion for Erin Bloomfield, who was handed her debut for the First Team in her first game of Ladies Football, and a what a great debut it turned out to be. Ilminster also welcomed Meg Purchase, Colette Martin and Amy Goss back into the squad.

The game started well for Ilminster who forced some early saves out of the Keynsham keeper. Despite this early pressure it was the Blues who found themselves behind when in the 15th minute the pacy Keynsham attacker found herself in behind the Ilminster back line, the first attempt was saved well by the Town stopper Charlotte Johnson, but the ball fell kindly for the attacker who ran onto the loose ball and placed it home into the empty net.

It didn’t take long for Ilminster to get back on level terms however, and the goal came from the debutant Erin Bloomfield. In the 21st minute Charlie Pettinger picked the ball up in the centre of the park, got her head up and played the ball over the top of the defence, into the path of Erin, who calmly controlled the ball and from way outside the box struck the ball on the half volley into the top corner, a great way to open your senior football account!

Unfortunately Ilminster found themselves 2-1 down at halftime. Keynsham earned a corner in the 31st minute, which was dangerously played into the box, and the ball founds itself in the back of the net.

Ilminster came out for the second half really going for the 3 points! Their efforts were repaid when in the 57th minute, Erin got herself another goal. A lovely ball into the box from the left wing by Maisie Parker found Erin in the box, who neatly struck a side foot volley low down to the keepers left, who despite her best efforts, couldn’t quite keep the effort out, the ball going in off the post.

Neither team could quite break through and get that all important 5th goal, despite many good chances, however the Blues did manage to get that goal! A great delivery into the box following a corner, fell kindly in the box for Charlie Pettinger, the young midfielder cleverly got the yard she needed on her player, and finished tidily into the goal! 83 minutes played, Ilminster just had to hold on for the remainder!

This however wasn’t enough for Ilminster, they wanted to make up fort he result of two weeks ago, and it more importantly wasn’t enough for the Ilminster debutant who wanted that hat trick! In the 87th minute, Erin’s time came, she worked hard to chase the ball and her efforts were repaid when a slight loss of concentration from the Keynsham defender 20 yards from her goal, gave Erin all the time she needed to disposes her of the ball, and then place the ball calmly into the side of the goal, nothing the keeper could do to deny Bloomfield of her debut hat trick!

This was the final score for the game, a great performance from Town with the result being the reverse of the previous meeting between the teams. Player of the game for today was Erin Bloomfield, getting her self that hat trick but also showing determination and work ethic in her first appearance for the Ladies, of which we hope there are many more to come!

Ilminster face the long trip to Charlestown in their next game on the 8th of April with a 2 o’clock kick off.
