Ilminster Ladies Development made the long trip to Watchet this afternoon for an entertaining encounter set against a scenic backdrop featuring a sea view and steam trains rolling past every half-hour. On a dry, bobbly surface, the visitors dug deep, showed tremendous resolve, and delivered a complete team performance to secure a deserved victory.
From back to front, every player contributed to a performance defined by composure at the back, dominant midfield link-up play, and clinical attacking power.
Kath: Delivered an all-round solid performance at right-back, constantly supporting Les and building attacks from deep.
Chopper: Led and organized the defensive line with usual calm authority. Unlucky not to grab a goal when a header crashed off the crossbar.
Dana: Slotted seamlessly into the back four with a calm, reliable performance, breaking up play with a precise sliding tackle and driving forward in the second half.
Alisha (Player of the Match): A spectacular defensive display at left-back. Under constant pressure from Watchet's winger, she locked down the flank completely—preventing every single cross and shot. Despite taking a heavy blow to the face and losing a boot, her relentless attitude and tenacity kept Watchet completely quiet.
Shell: The engine room of the side. Showed endless energy, winning every 50:50 challenge and slide tackle. Always provided an option on the edge of the box and was unlucky not to score.
Cath: Showed brilliant composure on the ball, consistently finding the right pass and combining seamlessly with Lesley down the wing.
Amy (Honourable Mention): Delivered her finest performance of the season. Composed and intelligent on the ball, her crisp passing and triangular link-up play in midfield proved to be the turning point in opening up space for the team.
Emily: Made an instant impact on her debut! Worked tirelessly down the left in the first half and capped off a fine performance by timing her run into the box perfectly to slot home a debut goal.
Les (Runner-Up POTM): An absolute nightmare for the Watchet defense. She dominated 1v1 situations and delivered deadly balls into the box. Took her first goal brilliantly, striking cleanly while off-balance to set the tone for a phenomenal attacking display.
Stace: Showed continuous improvement with a tireless pressing display that forced numerous errors in the opposition defense. Worked hard into great positions and came close to opening her account.
Shakira: Started sharply, using her strength to hold up the ball and feed the attackers, before unfortunately rolling her ankle on a pinecone.
Shannon: Suffered an early muscle strain after a promising start. Despite trying to battle through, she was forced off, but remained a driving force of positivity from the bench with constant encouragement.
In a match that demanded maximum effort on a challenging pitch, Ilminster answered every question asked of them. A steady defensive line, brilliant midfield interplay, and sharp attacking options ensured a memorable away performance.
Well done, team!
