Portishead Reserves 0-0 Ilminster Town Firsts

Ilminster who were 3 points behind League leaders Portishead at the start of play, were hoping to reduce the deficit but had to settle for a hard fought 0-0 draw in a match spoiled some what by the windy conditions.

The first half was very even with both sides unable to create any real chances, and both defences were certainly on top.

Ilminster really went for it in the second half, goalkeeper Matt Bisgrove only touched the ball once when punching clear.

For the last 20 minutes the Blues were camped completely in the hosts half and following a succession of corners, Charlie Rutter on for Joe Simmonds saw his header creep  agonisingly wide.

Fellow Substitute Jon Delahaye nearly won it for his team when he latched on to a Matt Brown through ball and from the angle as he rounded the keeper, the Portishead stopper was at full stretch to turn the ball just past the post.

Josh Parsons was again outstanding at the heart of the defence in this his first full season in Senior football. Every time Portishead broke out and threatened he was always seemed to be in the right place, winning the ball back and distributing it well.

At the end Portishead were by far the happiest of the two teams and with six of their seven games left at home, were highly delighted to keep the gap at 3 points from their closest rivals.
Ilminster had given their all and will be slightly disappointed that they failed to break down Portishead back line in the second half.
