Ilminster Town First 3 - 0 Wrington Redhill - Somerset County League Premier Division

Warm sunshine welcomed Wrington Redhill to “The Archie Gooch Pavilion’ for the Towns first home match of the Somerset County Premier League season, Wrington who had drew their first two matches arrived slightly late due to the heavy M5 traffic.

Chris Nezianya after discussion with his backroom team Andy Dyke and George Hamill finally opted for a similar tactic to the Odd Down line out from last week starting with a 4-3-2-1 formation , Adam Male was injured so Ben Pitman came into the midfield and the only other change brought in Jake Woodard at centre half with George Miles stepping down to the bench.

Ilminster started the brighter and 10 minutes in, Andy Whitefield showed good pace down the left wing before cutting inside where the defenders late challenge bright no hesitation from referee Mark Tilleray who pointed to the spot, last seasons top goalscorer Taylor Jefferson opened his account for the season with a cool finish.

Within 5 minutes the Blues doubled their advantage young Brad Pitman that seems to have boundless energy made a strong run down the left before passing in field to centre forward Carl Lazenby, Carl Lazenby took a touch and composed himself before brilliantly chipping the ball over the stranded keeper.

The rest of the half was an even affair with neither side looking like scoring.

Half time 2-0.

Ilminster are lucky to have both Carl Lazenby and Andrew Whitefield available at the moment, as both will probably return to their Parent club Perry Street Champions Barrington when the local Perry Street season begins in September and it was Andrew Whitefield who ran at the Warrington defence before getting in a great cross that Carl Lazenby could not find the finish on the stretch.

As the second half progressed Wrington at times looked dangerous with good build up play but they never managed a shot on goal the whole game.

It was Ilminster who sealed the 3 points late on, when Taylor Jefferson produced some skill down the right before finding Carl Lazenby inside, Carl Lazenby mishit his pass but substitute George Miles on at left back picked up the loose ball, before delivering a whipped cross into the penalty area for Carl Lazenby to round off an outstanding performance with a great header to make it 3-0.

Carl Lazenby was the star man with his two goals and great hold up play, the skilful front man has always been hampered with his knee in the past, but its great to see him back at the top of his game.

The defence were solid with Jake Woodard slipping seamlessly along side captain Jonny May at centre half and once again Brad Pitman showed incredible energy levels, both Pitman’s follow a great tradition of young Shepton Beauchamp players moving to ilminster Town and playing at a higher level, notably Matthew and Neil Horgan, Shaun French and back in the day the a certain Trev Pitman who had a spell when Gary Bealey was manager.
