Fry Club 2 - 2 Ilminster Town Firsts - Somerset County League Premier Division

Ilminster Town made the trip to Fry Club on Saturday (August 26, 2017) in buoyant mood after a great start to the season in the Premier Division of the Somerset County League.

The early stages of the game were cagey with both defences on top, but Ilminster started to create chances on about the half-hour mark.
Andrew Whitefield cut in from the right to set up Richard Crabb who's shot went over the bar when well placed and five minutes later Andrew Whitefield, after great individual play, hit the crossbar with a cracking shot.

The second-half started the same as the first with both defences on top, but with 60 minutes on the clock the home side took the lead through a good header.

But this only spurred Ilminster on and they drew level within two minutes through the dangerous Andrew Whitefield.

The game was becoming end-to-end and Frys took the lead again from a shot that went through a lot of bodies just evading the young Owen Male making his senior debut in goal.

The away team did not let their heads drop and they equalised again within two minutes from a good team move ending up with Richard Crabb, making up for his earlier chance, finishing well.

Ilminster kept plugging away and the ever dangerous Andrew Whitefield had a good shot saved by the home keeper with ten minutes left on the clock as the game ended in a 2-2 draw.

The Blues are currently eighth in the Premier Division table with five points from their four games played.

Next up for Ilminster is a home game on Saturday (September 2, 2017) in a 2.30pm kick-off against Ashton and Backwell United Reserves in the First Round of the Somerset Senior Cup.

The Blues return to Premier Division action on Saturday, September 9, 2017, when Nailsea and Tickenham are the visitors to the Archie Gooch Pavilion in a 3pm kick-off.

Ilminster Town: Owen Male, Luke Paul, Jonny May, Dougie Whitfield, George Miles, Andrew Whitefield, Brad Pitman, Jack Male, Richard Crabb, Dan Smith, Charlie Rutter. Sub was George Pugson on for Dan Smith.
