FA VASE 2nd Qualifying Round
Street AFC 6 Ilminster Town 1
There will be no repeat of last year’s FA Vase run after Ilminster suffered a heavy 6-1 defeat to a strong, physical Street AFC side.
After falling behind to Eddie Townsend’s 25-yard strike, Ilminster equalised through a Josh Phillips penalty. Street retook the lead five minutes before half-time when Chris Barrett headed in from a corner, sending the sides into the break with Street 2-1 ahead.
Ilminster started the second half brightly, taking the game to Street, pressing forward and controlling possession. They went close twice through efforts from Josh Phillips and Ed Butcher.
From the hour mark, the home side took control with a devastating 15-minute spell, adding four quick goals as Ilminster were completely overrun.
Harry Manley at the heart of the defence despite the six goals conceded, was Ilminster’s player of the match for a solid display.
