Ilminster Town Reserves 3-1 Exmouth Spartans

ILMINSTER END HOME LEAGUE CAMPAIGN WITH VICTORY TO REMAIN UNDEFEATED AT HOME AND SET UP TITLE DECIDER IN LAST GAME OF SEASON

Ilminster Town Res 3 - 1 Exmouth Spartans

Ilminster hosted Exmouth Spartans in their last home fixture of the season with nothing but a win needed to remain title favourites.
The hosts missing 5 players started the game well and quickly pressed the visitors goal and it didn't take long before good work from Renato Silva and a pin point cross met the incoming Igor Costa who calmly slotted home to make it 1-0 to the boys in blue.

1-0

Further opportunities went begging to extend the league but it was Exmouth who arguably had the best remaining chance as a long looping shot showed the best from goal keeper George Best who managed to get finger tips on the ball to make an important save.

1-0 HT

No half time changes but an emphasis on looking after the ball better on the deteriorating Ilminster pitch.

The boys in blue started the second half brightly and could of extended the lead within the first 30seconds of the half only for the Spartans keeper to make a smart save.

Ilminster continued to dominate and created chances but it looked as if it could be 'one of those days' where they couldn't kill the game off, that was until the constant threat of Taylor Jefferson finally paid off as he hit the back of the net to make it 2-0.

With 25minutes left on the clock it looked as if the hosts could see out the game, although the visitors had a different idea as a goal line clearance was wrong awarded as a goal to give Exmouth a hope to get back in the game.

2-1.

Ilminster continued you onslaught after the wrongly awarded goal and it was top goal scorer Warren Gabbidon who stepped up to calm the nervous and finish the game off with a fine finish inside the box to make it 3-1.

3-1 FT

The win see's the Reserves end the home campaign undefeated for the season and the chance to win the league title on their last game of the season, away vs Seaton on Saturday April 15th.

The Reserves are next in action next week as they visit Upottery in the 1/4 final of the Geary Cup.
