Colts suffer another loss but things are improving

The Colts arrived at Combe off the back of a 7-0 loss the week before. Everyone was full of high spirits before the game and eager for a great battle.

Pirate (Steve garland) won the toss and had the colts playing up the slope first half.

We started the game very positively and worked really hard keeping the advancing Combe to long shots. We were battling hard in midfield and holding a very tight defensive line at the back that was catching the Combe strikers offside.

Combes breakthrough finally came from a corner and a bit of poor marking from us, giving the combe player a free header and he powered into the back of the net.

We continued working hard and we were competing well in all areas of the field but a quick break down the combes right wing led to a well delivered cross that was volleyed into the net from an unmarked Combe striker to put them two up.

Combe now had the upper hand and were pushing on down the slope as much as they could. The pressure was starting to show as Honey (Chris May) cleared a cross off the line as it slipped through Pirate (steve Garlands) hands (it swerved pirate said). Combes persistence paid off and a good 20 yard strike just before half time beat Pirate at his near post to leave the colts with a hard task for the second half.

Half Time Combe A 3 - Colts 0

The colts started the second half knowing that they needed to strike first and it showed as the work rate was excellent and we started to dominate possession.

Although we were playing well and controlling the pace of the second half we just could not create any clear cut chances for our forwards and we were starting to gamble more and more to find a goal.

Gambling for our first goal let combe catch us on the counter attack and another cross this time was meet by the head of the combe striker as honey (Chris May) failed to get off his feet and challenge for the ball.

We kept battling but the fitness of the centre backs showed in the final minutes and combe broke through for a one on one to score and win them the game 5 -0.

For the second week in a row the Colts battled to the end and every player worked hard for the full 90 minutes. We as a team we were much improved this week even though the score line does not reflect it, but we competed in all areas of the pitch and deserved a goal or two.

We host Charmouth this Saturday and it should be a closely fought game.

Donkey of the Day this week was Honey (Chris May)
