Colts earn a well deserved point

We went into this game knowing we had a chance of some points.

After a nervous start we settled down and started playing some good football. We looked very solid at the back with Liam Doble making himself known to the Petherton forwards.

It was a tight first half and to be fair Petherton missed some good opportunities but we also failed to make the most of our chances. It looked like it was going to be 0-0 at half time but Colts keeper Pirate (Steve Garland) had other ideas, a weak lobbed effort from a petherton striker some how found its way through the hands of pirate and trickled over the line to give Petherton Res a 1-0 lead at halftime.

Half Time South Petherton Reserves 1 - 0 Ilminster Colts

Everyone was still positive at half time and knew the game was there for us to win. We started the second half brightly and we were controlling the game with some great link up play between the forwards and midfield. The midfield run of Adam Whaites down the right flank took petherton by surprise and us even more so as he knocked an attempted cross in that beat the keeper and brought us level.

The Colts were on top of the game and it looked like we were going to score a couple more but just as last week we failed to make Petherton pay in front of goal and a counter attack from Petherton saw them score to leave us trailing again.

As is the fighting spirit of the colts we never gave up and we piled on the pressure hardly letting Petherton out of their half. The pressure paid off and ken Timson scored to bring the colts level again. With only 10 or so minutes left we threw everything we had at Petherton but failed to get the winner despite some close efforts from Joe Draper and an outstanding save from the Petherton keeper to keep out the close range shot of the legend that is Andy Fish.

The game finished 2-2 and we fully deserved the point if not all 3, the team are finally heading in the right direction and our first win is surely soon to come.

DONKEY OF THE DAY = Pirate (Steve garland) 2 weeks in a row!!!!!
