Colt's get 3 points at Crewkerne Rangers

With a relatively unchanged side from the previous week, we knew we had a good chance of some points if we played the type of football we showed last week.

Keeping the same formation as last week, things looked really good from the start. We were creating chances early on and we looked really composed with the ball.

We got our breakthrough early on as Joe Draper drilled the ball home from the penalty spot after Andrew Moore was fouled in the box. We were looking like adding to the score line quickly as we were controlling the game with some excellent passing from the whole team. Against the run of play, a Crewkerne striker somehow found himself through on goal and finished well to bring the sides level. The Colts responded well to the goal and immediately pushed Crewkerne onto the back foot. The pressure told in the end as Joe Draper followed up a long strike from Chris May and slotted the ball neatly past the Crewkerne keeper to put the Colts 2-1 up.

Half time - Crewkerne Rangers 1 -2 Ilminster Colts

After a great team talk from the gaffer, the Colts were well motivated for the second half and knew that 3 points were within reach.

We started the second half really well and continued to force Crewkerne into their own half. We created lots of chances forcing the Crewkerne keeper to make some good saves and even hit the crossbar. We failed to get the third goal and a lapse in concentration allowed Crewkerne to score and bring the game level again.

With 35 minutes to go, the gaffer was considering ringing the tactical changes but resisted and had faith in the 11 players on the pitch to come up with the win. Another great decision by the gaffer as Tom Bond broke through from midfield and finished well to put us 3 -2 up, his goal certainly made up for the numerous shots he missed in the first half.

With 12 minutes to go, Richie Wilmot started cramping up and the gaffer was forced to bring himself on and help see out the game. The final whistle finally came and it was a very well deserved victory for the Colts. The whole team played well from start to finish and things are looking good for the remainder of the season.

Crewkerne Rangers 2 - 3 Ilminster Colts

Donkey of the day = Darren Paul (no excuse for being hung over on match day)

A big fine also went to our regular donkey of the day, Steve Garland, for trying to drum up business during the game.

This Saturday we are at home to Waytown Hounds
