Colts outplayed by Luso-Chard

Before the game we new this was going to be a tough task as Luso-Chard were top of the league and word had spread about the great football they play.

The gaffer stuck with the same formation as in previous games and had a full compliment of subs to utilise.

We started the game slowly and it was obvious right from the start that the colts did just not seem up for today’s game. The lack of communication between the players showed and within 10 minutes of the game Luso-Chard went one up.

Luso-Chard were playing some excellent football and it was evident that this was a team that had been playing together for a few seasons. Luso-chard scored again after a poor back pass let in the Luso striker to put them two up.

The colts finally started battling harder and were making it hard for Luso to get any balls forward. The colt’s resistance was broke once again from a great through ball which split the defence and the Luso striker netted once more to put them three up.

Half time was approaching and 3 – 0 down playing up the slope against a very good side did not look that bad, but another great link up play from the Luso-Chard midfield allowed them to score just before half time.

Half Time Luso-Chard 4 – 0 Ilminster Colts

The team talk at half time was to keep battling hard and communicate with each other more. We at least wanted some goals from the game.

The second half started slowly and the colt’s still did not like they there usual selves. We were giving the ball away far too easily and were defiantly not playing as a team.

Luso-Chard continued to play some great football and scored a couple of quick fire goals to put us 6 down with 35 minutes still to play.

To be fair to the colts they never gave up even though they knew the game was beyond them and everyone was trying to stop Luso-Chard from scoring anymore goals.

The gaffer rang some changes due to injuries and frustrated players. This meant that Tommy Wallis was now playing at right back and Dariusz and Richie Wilmot came into the midfield.

Luso-Chard scored again after Tommy Wallis now playing at right back was skinned by a 4ft 16 year old lad who turned him inside out, left him for dead and put in a cross for his team mate to slot home. (photographic evidence is in the colts album)

With now only ten minutes left everyone kept working hard until the final whistle.

This was a poor performance from the colts and we never played anywhere near the type of football that we can play. We lost by seven but it could easily have been more if it wasn’t for our veteran goalkeeper Steve Garland who pulled off some great saves.

It’s a game to put behind us and move on to the next one.

Luso-Chard 7 – 0 Ilminster Colts

Donkey of the day = Tommy Wallis
