Colts Progress in County Cup

After being defeated by an illegible side in the 2nd round of the Somerset Intermediate Cup, the Colts ended their long wait to be reinstated into the sup by facing Coleford Athletic Reserves in a 3rd round tie.

As with all county cup matches, neither team knew what to expect and therefore the first 5-10 minutes were very cagey and the play was balanced, however around the 10 minute mark Ilminster stepped up their game and started to dominate possession and create chances, they were duly awarded on 15 minutes when a Charlie Male free kick found Jake Woodard virtually unmarked at the back post, where he easily beat the keeper with a fine header.

Shortly after taking the lead, Ilminster created another great opportunity in which a goal mouth scramble saw the ball fall to Kaymon Lisney who hit the bar when it appeared easier to score. More chances came and went and the Colts went into half time in a game that should have been dead and buried with a 1-0 lead.

The second half saw much the same, with Ilminster dominating possession and chances, however the greatest chance fell to Coleford when a free kick deceived the keeper and had to be expertly cleared off the line by Jake Woodard.

This chance spurred Ilminster on, and shortly the lead was doubled when Sam Tratt outstrengthened the Coleford defender and chipped the keeper from the edge of the box.

Full time score was 2-0, a well deserved clean sheet and victory for the Colts.

The 4th round sees Ilminster face Timsbury at home on February 18th.
